7th Swiss Geoscience Meeting, Neuchâtel 2009

ABSTRACT INFORMATION

print page

We invite you to submit abstracts for talks and posters pertaining to all aspects of geosciences. Abstracts will be categorised following the indications given by the authors in the abstract submission form. The conveners of each session will organise oral and/or poster presentations depending on the number of submissions and their relevance. Abstracts will be available as PDF documents from the SGM homepage free of charge. There will be no printed version of the abstract volume distributed at the meeting. Please note that abstract submission does not replace the registration for the meeting. Each participant must register for the meeting.

Abstracts should be submitted electronically using the online abstract submission form and follow the instructions given below (these instructions can also be downloaded):

For questions related to abstract submission, please contact Pierre Dèzes (see contact)

Deadline

The abstract submission deadline is September 4th 2009.

Language

Abstracts should preferably be submitted in English. They can however also be submitted in one of the four swiss national languages.

Abstract Size

Your abstract should not exceed 2 pages in the format of the model abstract including optional figures, captions and references. Please download the abstract model, modify it by pasting your text into it, and consider the following points when writing your abstract.

Title

Please capitalise Names only.

Author(s)

Please list for each author in the following order: Family name, full first name, affiliation, address, e-mail address.

Text

Please use the predefined formats for:

  • Abstract title
  • Authors
  • Adresses of authors
  • Body text
  • Bullet lists
  • Abstract illustrations
  • Abstract References

Do not "beautify" the abstract, which means: no right justification or other fancy layouting. Thank you!

Otherwise, use Arial 12, single spacing, italics and scientific notations according to standard international rules. Margins are given by the model abstract. The abstract file should be submitted in .rtf or .doc format. In addition, we recommend the submission of a .pdf file (text only) to enable us to check for correct reproduction of special characters.

References

Please put optional references at the end of the abstract text. The maximum of cited references should not exceed 5.

In text citation

References should be made giving the author´s name with the year of publication.

Examples: (Laubscher 1973, 1975; Meyer 1930) or ....... as Trümpy (1969, Fig.2) stated.... When reference is made to a work by two authors «&» (without a comma before «&») should be used; by three or more authors, the first author followed by «et al.» is cited.

Reference list

The list of references has to be compiled alphabetically in the following standard manner:

Arthaud, F. & Matte P. 1975: Les décrochements tardi-hercyniens du sud ouest de l'Europe. Géometrie et essai de reconstruction des conditions de la déformation. Tectonophysics 25, 139–171.

Figures, Photographs and tables

We recommend to submit tables, drawings and photographs in pixelised form (e.g. .tif/ highest quality .jpg etc.). Adobe Illustrator files are accepted for vectorised graphics and tables. Please make sure that you scale your illustration to printing size (maximum 25cm x 16cm). Please check that your figures and included text are readable at this size (avoid text smaller than 10pts). We recommend a resolution of 300 dpi for pictures, and a maximum resolution of 600dpi for graphics.

Symbols and patterns must be lettered directly (not coded by numbers!). Bar scales are preferred for photographs. Mention the name of the photographer or the source in the caption.

Captions

Please put captions to optional figures, tables or photographs next to these (see model abstract).

Naming Conventions

Please make sure that the file names are in the following form: surname_name (e.g. Emma Bovary: bovary_emma.doc, bovary_emma1.jpg; bovary_emma2.jpg etc.).
